Charnwood Educate Apprentices in Wine Tasting
On Friday the 21st of October, the Charnwood apprentices went to east bridgford hill for an education session of wine tasting. East Bridgford Hill was the ideal setting, with 7 acres of land and views stretching over the River Trent. The wines being tasted originated from the Rhone Valley, Southern France.
Our Tutor for the day was Linda Field, who kindly made an introduction and overview of the wines of the Rhone Valley to the apprentices.

Alicia Moore, is a hospitality apprentice in the Charnwood academy and explains how to taste wine, "There were four wines that we were able to taste. Before we could taste any of the wines Linda Field shown us how to taste the wines properly, she shown us how to see the true colour of the wine by tipping the wine glass slightly against a white piece of paper."
"She also shown us how to smell the wine by swirling the glass and really getting your nose in the glass to smell all of the smells that the wine offers. She then showed us how to taste the wine by taking a sip and then swirling it in your mouth and really tasting the wine. "
We then had an induction to the types of wines that Rhone valley do and where the names come from. The first was a st Julian cdre du rhane, which was made in 2009. The colour of the wine was a light ruby red and had a light fruity smell. This wine had a dry but fruity taste and the taste got much better after time.
The second wine that we had given to taste was a 2007 cairanne with a dark ruby red colour; this wine had a much deeper fruit smell to it but was a lot dryer on the pallet. This wine had a slightly bitter taste but once the oxygen had mixed with the wine it had a deeper and nicer body.
The third wine that we tasted was a lirac crus vin which had a deep ruby colour but also has a woody/orange tinge around the outer layer which could have meant that the wine was a really good wine or it could have meant that the wine wasn't any good anymore. Luckily this wine was a good wine and had a fruity blackcurrant smell to it. The taste of this wine had a light blackcurrant flavour but with a hint of spice to finish.
The last wine that we were given to taste was a 2007 crozes hermitage which like the others had a deep ruby colour and smelt of oaky woodlands and had a soft but smooth woody taste to it.
I had a lovely experience at East Bridgford House, the house was magnificent as it was huge and looked incredible as everything had its own place and there was different key items in each room that drawn you in.
"I would do it again but when I am a little more older so that I appreciate it more."
