Chef Apprentice wins local RIBI Young Chef Competition

Three talented Chef Apprentices took part in the local RIBI Young Chef competition at the Charnwood Academy this month to compete against one another in securing a place in the Regionals.

Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland believes it is highly important to encourage and develop creativity in young people, and this includes creativity in the kitchen. Cooking amongst young people is a growing interest and a valuable life skill. Schools seem to agree and hence the RIBI Young Chef competition, in association with Filippo Berio, moves forward from strength to strength each year producing some superb quality cooking from our young people aged from 11 to 17.

Lewis Chapman, Chris Burton and Conan Brooks, aged between 15-17 years ae working towards a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Services. They attend the Charnwood academy to practise their cheffing skills and study the essentials in Catering.

Each Apprentice was tasked with creating their own three course menu and presenting the finished product to a team of judges.

Conan Brooks was announced the Winner and will continue into the Regionals. If successful he will receive an automatic invitation to the District competition and Finals. Over 4,000 people enter the competition each year, and just eight places are available in the shortlist.
